Sandwell has been named as one of 75 local authorities that will receive a share of the Government’s £300m Family Hubs and Start for Life funding for the period 2022-25.

Sandwell will receive approximately £4M.

This new funding will support the development of Family Hubs in Sandwell. Building on existing services for families and working with statutory and voluntary sector partner agencies, Sandwell’s Family Hubs will be designed to join up the planning and delivery of family services locally and to improve access to support, advice and services from birth through to adulthood.

There will be a particular focus on the crucial start for life period although support will be available for families of children of all ages 0-19 or up to 25 years for those with special educational needs and disabilities.

Sandwell’s Cabinet Member for Children and Education, Councillor Simon Hackett said:

“All families need support from time to time. Our vision is that every Sandwell family will be able to access the support they need when they need it.

“This new funding will help us to develop further effective early intervention which can improve children’s well-being, educational progress and life chances, reduce family poverty, improve mental health and in turn can ultimately lead to lower crime, unemployment and other negative outcomes.”
